We encourage you to check out these October landscaping tips. Summer may no longer be here. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t still own an aesthetically pleasing landscape, particularly when Carroll Landscaping maintains it. What’s even better is that hardscape features such as fire pits and outdoor fireplaces allow you to enjoy your landscape even when it becomes colder. In addition, if you add a space heater to your screened porch, you might be surprised to find how much warmth it can generate. Here are a few October landscaping tips!
October Landscaping Tips: Keep Mowing the Lawn
Grass continues to grow until it frosts over in the winter. There’s no reason to stop mowing the grass right now. Once you stop mowing for the season, you might also consider winterizing your lawn mower by:
- Sharpening the blades
- Changing the oil and spark plugs
- Ensuring that the mower doesn’t have any damage
- Cleaning the air filter
Continue Watering the Lawn
When it rains, there is less evaporation, meaning that a lawn receives natural moisture. If the rain accumulates substantially, there isn’t any need to water the lawn. However, if your yard isn’t receiving one inch or more of moisture per week, you should continue to water it.
Rake Your Property
When enough leaves fall onto a lawn, they can block the sun. As a result, plants will not receive enough nutrients. A leaf blower is convenient. However, a traditional rake works best to remove thatch (a combination of living and dead plant matter).
Plant Pumpkins!
Whether you love Halloween or not, planting pumpkins in your garden is always the best way to say, “Hey, it’s autumn!” Pick a 70-degree day or hotter to place your pumpkin seeds into the ground, pick a spot with minimal shade, allow plenty of space for sprawling vines, and enjoy! Plus, we can bet that your children will love pumpkin carving and creating a fun jack-o’-lantern.
Investigate What Hardscapes You’d Like to Add to Your Property
Snowfall occurs during the winter, which means it could be more dangerous to navigate a property, especially when you live on an incline. You might consider driveway installation as well as landscape lighting if you’d like a safer surface to walk on when it’s dark and cold and the weather is inclement. Furthermore, if your property is uneven, in general, you should ask us all about our grading services. It’s much easier to design a beautiful outdoor living space on even land.
