How to Tell When You Need a New Driveway carroll landscaping

Here are a few signs that you need a new driveway.

A cracked or deteriorating driveway can kill your curb appeal regardless of how lovely your home is. You may notice some imperfections in your driveway if you have been living in your house for a while. Issues with your driveway can not only be an eyesore but can be potentially damaging to your vehicle. Many driveway problems can be fixed by simple repair work, but the best solution may be to replace your driveway completely when there is widespread damage. Here are a few signs that you need a new driveway.

Cracks

The most obvious sign that your driveway is in disrepair is the appearance of cracks in the stone or surface. Driveways develop cracks over time. De-icing salt, oil, and other substances seep into the driveway’s surface and cause significant damage. Additionally, the moisture penetrating the stone freezes and expands in winter months, exacerbating the cracks in the driveway. You can fix small cracks with simple repair work, but a complete driveway replacement may be necessary if the cracks are deep and broad.

Poor Drainage

If you live in an area with a lot of rain, it is essential to ensure that your driveway has proper drainage to prevent moisture buildup. Uneven or sloped driveways cause drainage problems, weakening your driveway and leading to more cracks and potholes. Water running down the middle of the surface or pooling in certain spots are signs of uneven areas in your driveway. Replacing the driveway is usually the best solution to repair existing damage.

Faded Appearance

Constant exposure to the Sun can cause your driveway to fade and give off a rough look. This is more than an aesthetic issue. A faded or weathered driveway is more susceptible to cracks and damage. While a sealant may improve the appearance of your driveway, a full replacement may be required to enhance its durability.

Advanced Age

Often, the reason for replacing a driveway is that it is too old. The average lifespan for a driveway, regardless of material, is between 15 and 30 years. Exposure to UV rays, harsh weather, and constant wheel and foot traffic can contribute to an aging driveway and make it more susceptible to damage. Installing a brand new driveway is more beneficial than wasting money on repeated repairs.
